International Students FAQ

How many international students are at Taft?
International students make up 15% of Taft's student body.

Is there a separate application for international students?
No, you may download the Taft application from our admissions website or use the online application from TABS or SSATB.

What is the application fee for an international student?
International students must pay the $100 application fee. Please send a check or money order in US funds drawn on a US Bank.

What is the application deadline for international students?
The admissions application deadline is January 15 for all students. The financial aid deadline for all students is February 1.

Does Taft offer English as a Second Language courses?
No, Taft does not offer ESL courses.

What testing does Taft require for an international applicant?
Taft highly recommends applicants whose primary language is not English to take the TOEFL. Taft looks for an internet-based score of 105 or higher. Our TOEFL code is 3834.
In addition, students are required to take the SSAT. The median score for those accepted last year was the 82nd percentile. Taft's SSAT code is 7600.

How does an international student schedule an interview?
We prefer to meet all applicants in person for an interview. If you cannot get to our campus for an interview, after your complete application and fee has been received, you will need to contact the Admissions Office to schedule either a skype interview or if we have a representative in your area an interview with a Taft alumnus or current parent in your country.

Does Taft accept new seniors (12th graders)?
Taft prefers to accept students entering the 9th, 10th or 11th grades. There are times when it is appropriate to enter as a post-graduate (PG) as well.

Who is considered a foreign or international student?
Anyone who is not a US citizen or a permanent resident of the United States is considered an international student.

Is financial aid available to International students?
Financial aid is available to International students on a very limited basis. All financial aid is determined by your family's demonstrated need for financial support. Once your admissions application and fee have been received Taft will email you our international student financial aid application and instructions.

When and how does Taft communicate admissions decisions?
All admissions decisions are mailed on March 10. International students will also receive admissions decisions by email on March 10.

When do we have to let Taft know if we are going to enroll?
All students must let Taft know by April 10 at the very latest whether or not they are going to enroll. Enrollment contracts and deposits are due at this time.

If we decide to enroll at Taft when are I-20s issued?
Taft must receive your enrollment contract and deposit prior to an I-20 being issued. I-20s are usually mailed out to new students in early June. This should give you enough time to get the proper visas and make travel arrangements.

When does the school year begin?
The Taft school year begins in early September. We host an International Student Orientation two days prior to classes starting. We do not accept students midyear.
